the governing body constantly tries to impose its will on jehovah's witnesses.
they really don't want you to do anything but society approved things.
everything is "bad".. we can see this quite clearly at this point.
Controlled? In a sense I suppose. Because your days were controlled. Meetings, field service, book study nights, school and service meetings on nights, sunday meeting and field service. Saturday morning field service. Assemblies, circuit, district special day.
If you were a servant, ministerial or elder, more meetings. Quick build work, Snow removal assignment duty, Halloween egg throwing watchman duty.
Mini, to a great extent life was not your own. However, the carrot kept me doing it.

when a person murders another person it is considered a horrible crime against humans.
it is bad.. when a person murders several people over a period of time, it is called a serial crime and it is worse than a horrible crime against humans.
it is really bad.. when a person murders millions of people, that person is called a "conquerer.
Farkel, There are no bible gods in existence. Wow! look what I just said: I have no proof of this. However, there is plenty of proof that god or gods have nothing to do with all the murders recorded in the jewish / christian / and islamic story books that have captivated billions of people. War, murder amongst humans is totaly mans doing. To pin it on a story book god or gods is fiction.
But, Farkel you know this already. I know where your coming from with this topic on murder. It just does not make sense to believe a god or gods are doing all of this murdering when it is so obvious that man"s inhumanity to man is historically evident.

the jw and the (pseudo?
)scientific "hopes" of individual "everlasting life" (which have been connected on a couple of recent threads) have at least something in common: they all seem to take for granted that death is a bad thing.. as amazing as it may be to you, this amazes me so much that i don't know even where to start.
of course death hurts in reality when you lose people you love, or in imagination when you anticipate your own extinction.
One in Job's situation would rather not of been born. This I can understand when all is lost and suffering is your lot.

Hi Nark. Is death friend to the millions who have lost their lives from being murdered and having their lives cut short? Is there justice? Do the chips just fall where they fall with no consquences to the murders and to those murdered well is it just is what it is.
Or, are you talking about the so-called normal life span only and not all the a to z things that happen to individuals that cost them their normal life span, like growing through the years until death claims us when we are worn out physically and so away we go. Moving out as others move in.
I think of it this way, before 1945 I did not exist ( not that I am aware of ) and when I die, I will simply not exist again. Is this fatalistic?
Are all belief system really a hidden fear that once life ends its all over? Does a belief system help one get through this reality.
I think so. How say you? I know that finally I have come to the realization that I don't know and what I think does not matter, only that I know death will come one day, whether friend or foe, sleep the everlasting sleep.
Nark I don't expect answers. These are just some of my thoughts that I push back in my mind that keep on surfacing with questions like yours.

who the hell are "the elders"?
being an elder is supposed to be a "privilege".
elders are supposed to be "shepherds" who care for the flock.
Its so sad. So many wasted years. I got hoodwinked ( deceived by false appearance ) I tried to do right by the friends, the rank and file, the many who came to me for help. However the Bethel Elders were very different than the local Elders. I was a family man, local Elder. I tried to be Christ-like with all people. I had my ups and downs etc.
What a shock I had when I learned about and received a reality check about the Watchtower Society and all its past history. I can't recover those 33 years. I try and live one day at a time, caring for my family, enjoying true friendships and putting the past behind me. I''ll soon be 65 years old! How many years are left? I read alot, play texas holdem' see some movies, and socialize with friends.
My wife and sons are well, the family is together, no reason to complain anymore. Many have it much harder than me. It has ben nice to share the many topics and post's with you Mini and the many others over the years and that has brought a measure of comfort. Take good care of yourself friend.

if god is outside of nature and therefore cannot be proved or disproved by science, is atheism a form of blind faith?
after all, it cannot be defended on the basis of pure reason.. steven jay gould said;.
"science simply cannot by its legitimate methods adjudicate the issue of god's possible superintendence of nature.
Perry, If we should bring clearly to a man's sight the terrible sufferings and miseries to which his life is constantly exposed, he would be seized with horror.
If we were to conduct the confirmed optimist through the hospitals; infirmaries, and surgical operating rooms, through the prisons. torture chambers, and slave kennels, over battle fields and places of executions; if we were to open to him all the dark abodes of misery, where it hides itself from the glance of cold curiosity, and, finally...well you get the point don't you?
we have a lot of new ones on this site as well as some who have been here for years----i know this subject has been brought up before, but were there any memorable cos or dos that you can recall?.
co arnie scneider was my last co when i was an elder.
he was a very sweet man..
I must be getting better. I can't remember any of them. Senile or alheimers, or ???????????????

i realize as an elder that i am speaking out against the very organization i try to faithfully represent, but i personally think that the governing body is wrong by teaching that only what they teach us, as printed in the watchtower publications, should be considered to be the truth.
theyve made the expression of any personal opinions or group debates over their official versions of biblical truths subject to disciplinary action often leading to someone being disfellowshipped.. .
that is why i feel that i must keep my own identity somewhat anonymous.
Their claim concerning 1919 is what disproves that they are the appointed faithful slave. Jusat examine their history from 1887 to 1919 and the so-called test that they underwent and failed. Everything else is moot.

i can't remember.
i don't think about it .
what a difference a few years make!.
Absolutely! There is no proof that the Bible is inspired of God. Jews wrote the Hebrew scriptures all about them and their history. Some known and some unknown persons wrote the Christian Greek scriptures and again its about their belief system and their history. Nothing to do with a God inspiring them to put words and thoughts in their heads to tranfer on paper.
That's not to say that the Bible has no value, it does, I consider it a self help book for some.
